Description:
You are looking at a very unique, far ahead of its time as far as geometry goes, custom Trek Fuel EX 9.9. The bike is a size Large but you should know that the bike fits more like a Medium/Large or something in the 18.5-19” frame range. Trek’s sizing uniqueness is well-documented online.
This full carbon frame was built for the Trek racing team that year and was used by a few of their riders as a dual slalom bike. This one in particular only saw two races and my wife has been riding it very sporadically since 2018. Our friend was the pro rider. This frame was well ahead of its time with its slacker geometry by 2016 standards. Two years later, the geometry numbers for this frame would become the norm. That is a big reason why it has proven to be such a great all around bike. If it were my size, we’d be keeping it.
This bike has been extremely well-maintained and satisfied the needs of riding in our area of Western North Carolina better than most bikes I can think of. The reason for this is the incredibly light frame, the very good fox pedaling platform with the Re:Aktive tune, the larger upfront fork travel making it a more aggressive and capable descender, and the shorter travel rear end making it a better climber. This bike bobs and weaves with a nimbleness that is exactly what you want from a 27.5 frame.
Everything on this bike is top-flight. Here is a breakdown of its components:
Fork:
A custom Rock Shox fork with the stiffer/beefier Lyric bottoms and the lighter Pike uppers, another special offer for the Trek team. The fork has been serviced in the last year with not many miles on it since.
Wheels:
A light and stiff set of SRAM Rail 50 boost wheels with custom DT swiss internals. These wheels spin very fast and have been bombproof. My wife actually opted to keep them rather than switching over her older I9 set.
Tires:
Almost new (less than 5 rides) set of tires:
Front: E*13 A/T trsr single ply 27.5x2.35 front tire (actual size closer to 2.4)
Rear: Continental Trail King with chili rubber 27.5x2.4 (true to size and pairs perfectly with front tire)
Drivetrain:
SRAM XX1 1x11 speed drivetrain including a excellent condition XX1 shifter, rear derailleur, and cassette (which is super light); SRAM X1 chain; frame does have the option of adding a front derailleur
Handlebar:
Brand new PNW range handlebar 800 mm wide
Brakes:
Brand new set of SRAM guide RS brakes with only two rides on them.
Brand new SRAM centerline rotors front (180) and rear (160)
Crankset/Chainring:
SRAM carbon XO crankset (170mm) with a Wolf Tooth 30T boost chainring
BB:
Brand new SRAM press fit bottom bracket with only one ride on it
Dropper Post/Lever:
LEV Integra 150 mm internal dropper post that has been serviced in the last year: Bontrager dropper lever
Saddle:
WTB Silverado Pro model saddle
Stem:
Thomson Elite X4 0 40mm stem w/ 0 degree rise (almost new)
Grips:
ODI lock on grips
Other:
Mountain Style frame decal protection on underneath of down tube and ton of top tube (the latter to protect against unnecessary scuffing of the flat paint on the top tube)
Currently the bike has a set of nicer but older Spank aluminum flat pedals (faded red in color) that I’m happy to include with the bike if you want them
The frame has never been wrecked but did see a rock chip to the driver side rear triangle. Find Your Line bike shop in Asheville assured me there was no structural damage to the frame but I opted to have them still put a small carbon patch over the spot just to add some reinforcement. It is nothing to be concerned about but I did want to note it.
